About

featuring a rare quartz sandstone peak forest landscape found scarcely worldwide. The core attractions include Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (home to Yuanjiajie, Golden Whip Stream, and other filming locations for Avatar), Tianmen Mountain (notable for its glass skywalk and 99 serpentine paths leading to the heavens), and the glass bridge in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon (the world’s highest and longest).

The Best Time to Visit Zhangjiajie

If you’re wondering when the best time to visit Zhangjiajie is, my recommendation would be April-May or September-November. These periods offer not only comfortable weather but also some of the most stunning scenery, all while avoiding the summer and National Day holiday crowds, ensuring a more relaxed experience.

Climate and Scenery:

  • Temperature: Around 15-20°C (60-68°F), with the mountains feeling fresh and invigorating rather than stuffy.
  • Scenery: After rainfall, the misty clouds create a magical atmosphere. The slopes are covered in blooming azaleas and peach blossoms, making the scenery particularly picturesque. Jinbian Stream, shrouded in morning mist, becomes a photographer’s dream.

Visitor Situation:

  • Before the May Day holiday, there are fewer tourists, leading to more affordable accommodation prices and a generally quieter, more serene experience.

Climate and Scenery:

  • Temperature: Ranging from 10-25°C (50-77°F), autumn offers crisp, clear air with the highest visibility of the year.
  • Scenery: Mid-October to early November marks the peak of the autumn foliage season. Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain are ablaze with red leaves, while golden ginkgo trees contrast beautifully against the quartzite sandstone peaks, creating a visually striking landscape.

Visitor Situation:

  • After China’s National Day holiday, visitor numbers drop by about 30%, making it an ideal time for a more immersive exploration and peaceful photography sessions.
